Core Network Engineer


We are expanding our business activities and looking for a Core Network Engineer who will be responsible for the sustaining engineering, testing, monitoring, and problem resolution of the core network for the Solaris Mobile system. This employee/candidate will collaborate with other groups to support systems, tools and diagnostic techniques for the deployment of the Echostar 21 satellite, the Solaris Mobile ground network and delivery of services to end users.

The employee/candidate must have experience in 3G/4G packet core, IMS, SIP/VoIP networks and network design principles. Experience in the deployment, integration, and interworking of the various network elements/functions that make up these technologies is required. Operational experience of end to end 3G packet core and VoIP networks in a service provider environment is highly desirable.

The employee/candidate should also have extensive working knowledge of traditional voice protocols and features, such as ISDN, SS7, routing translations/dial plans, as well as VoIP counterparts such as VoIP application servers, SIGTRAN, and softswitch type switching platforms. Experience should include 3G/4G core network deployments that support SMS, Emergency Services, and Lawful Intercept.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with Core Network vendor and internal engineering teams to build and integrate the 3G/4G core systems into the end-to-end network
  • Provide support for the establishment and maintenance of various interconnects required for SMS, Emergency Services, CALEA, and SIP origination and termination
  • Provide support for integration and maintenance of billing and provisioning systems, and various network monitoring systems
  • Document the various network element configurations as implemented
  • Once established, set up an alarm and outage monitoring regime
  • Set up and maintain a network performance reporting regime
  • Administrate core network security systems and processes
  • Maintain internal web pages, databases, software tools and file shares

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Broad knowledge of 3G/4G packet core and IMS networks
  • Thorough understanding of 3G packet data and IMS signaling flows
  • Familiarity of the various 3G/4G and IMS standards
  • Working knowledge of IP networking, IP routing protocols, CoS, QoS, and DiffServ
  • Experience with Huawei products and equipment
  • Experience in carrier networks, in all phases of design, engineer, build, and support
  • Some experience with specialized services such as Emergency calling, CALEA, SIP origination and termination
  • Layer 1-7 LAN/WAN troubleshooting/problem determination
  • Advanced Unix and LINUX administration skills
  • Programming skills related to automation and software tool development in a telecommunications carrier environment
  • 5 years of experience working in an operations center or design engineering environment
  • BSEE/BSCE or equivalent 4 year university degree, or commensurate experience in telecommunications engineering
